Bloc Quebecois - Why Can't I run in Alberta?

Well.. I reviewed their constitution and could see that they don't run candidates outside of Quebec.. however, wanting to at least volunteer to give them a hand in packing their bags and leaving, I wrote a letter asking to run for the BQ in Alberta nonetheless..

Here's the response - very polite, but very clear. They have no interest outside of Quebec. Period. So, then, why is it that my tax dollars have to go to support a party who is avowedly refusing to represent any interests in Canada outside of Quebec.

Just wondering..

The Letter:

Dear Madam or Sir:

On behalf of Gilles Duceppe, Member for Laurier—Sainte-Marie and Leader of the Bloc Quebecois, we acknowledge receipt of you for your e mail of November 10, 2008. We thank you for having taken the time to write to us and appreciate your interest in the Bloc Québécois.

One of the fundamental reasons for the existence of the Bloc Québécois is to promote sovereignty for Quebec among Quebeckers. Until Quebeckers choose this option, the Bloc Québécois is working to increase awareness of the merits of its approach and is defending Quebec’s interests in Ottawa at all times. In fact, some 40% of Quebeckers are counting on the party to be their voice in the federal arena. For this reason, I am sure you can understand that the party cannot offer national representation while at the same time fulfilling its mandate.

You may be assured that the representatives of the Bloc Québécois will always act responsibly and with the utmost respect for Canada as a nation and in Quebec's best interests.

Sincerely,

Anne Allard
Correspondence Coordinator Assistant
Office of the Leader of the Bloc Québécois

Why run as a BQ candidate. Run as a Bloc Alberta candidate and we can all get the hell out of this Canadian Confederation straight jacket before the liberals and NDP suck every dime out of this province to support the dying eastern industries who can only survive when operating with a sixty cent dollar.
