People Suck.

I hate to say it, so close to Christmas and all, but, the problem at the end of the day with the whole Copenhagen thing is this:

People Suck.

I have deliberately tried to avoid, of late, getting into the whole debate about whether or not man-made climate change is a reality.  I tend to believe it is, but at the same time, virtually all scientists also agree that we are, at best, slowing an inevitable movement towards warming in any event.  Glaciers are going to melt and the polar ice caps are going to disappear - whether we are on this earth or not.  That's a given.

The bigger problem is that, as we have seen in Copenhagen, mankind is cursed with the tendancy to look towards it's own self-interest.  China wants what China wants.. but then, so does Venezuela, and the Sudan, and the Philippines, and every other country.  There is a global movemement now seeking to move $100 billion to "developing countries", and you can bet two things:

a) Actual progress in impact on climate will be questionable; and
b) People will take advantage of it to their own benefit, and to hell with the climate and the developing world.

Doubts?

Well see this:

France Probes $230 Million Carbon Trading Fraud;

$7 Billion lost to Carbon Trading Fraud in European Union;

Danes Investigating Carbon Trading Fraud;

$60 Million Carbon Credit Fraud in UK;

7 Arrested in £38 Million UK Carbon Credit Fraud;

And think about this..  and this point is aimed at ys "good" conservatives as well as liberals.  We have third world country conditions in Canada.  Within 40 miles of where I write are two of the largest Indian Reserves in Canada, the Kainai and Piikani, and for many, conditions there rival anything you could imagine in any thrid world country in the world.

So just a thought before we embark on this pointless endeavor to send money outside of our borders from our own taxpayers..   perhaps it could be better spent here.

Just a thought.

Well at the very least the Harper government could , if they were not so terrified of the rabid environmentalists and the screaming left-MSM, set up a panel to investigate the ClimateGate (climate change fraud), in particular :
* East Anglia CRU emails and faked computer program model
* New Zealand altering climate data
* NASA altering data and programs
* And now most recent ... Russia confirms 40% of surface measurements in Russia excluded by CRU because they did not show any warming !

I mean if the Conservatives are so stupid as to send money to the likes of Mugabe , Chavez and Castro , the issue of ClimateGate deserves some official attention , since Copenhagen is TOTALLY based on the projections and computer models !!!

Incidentally if I read correctly , had Canada signed on to Copenhagen we would be on the hook for $30Billion per year or roughly $1000 for every man woman and child in Canada. Ask Canadians how they feel about that and see how responsive they are to saving the planet ?

The Left Coasters believe they are saviors of the planet, carbon tax heaven, tree hugger capital of Canada....

Only some people suck. They are the minority but they gather too much attention.

Christmas Holidays for lonely, toxic people is just a bad time of the year.

Don't let them get you down!

Brian that was a Yes Man fake Press Release BTW. I linked it earlier including an AD for Travel and Tourism for a Warmer Canada!

It is funny how some of our media gets sucked into without investigating it thoroughly.

Wafer anyone?

Theirs nothing “cursed” about “self interest”, as a matter of fact, you could call it “all good”. It’s a natural occurring event that every living thing needs to survive.

Now if people actually and truly believed in all this scare mongering ridiculousness, they would look out for their own self interest and do what was necessary. But that’s not the case.

Global Warming / Climate Change is a fraud and most people can see that. The evidence is right there in your post. Many countries in the world are following the maxim of “Never interrupt your enemy when they’re engaged in defeating themselves”. Who can blame them!!

Cherniak_WTF said...

How about Canada setting targets for itself?

Too easy, and Conservatives like to blame others for their failings...

A carbon tax is the way to go because even if climate change is a non-issue more tax revenue should be raised from the consumption of resources and less from returns on investment.

Cap and trade is too idealistic. It makes for a fine theory but the fraud cases illustrate that tradable credits are going to be far too subject to manipulation and abuse.

I’ve been in more than a few third world countries.
I’ve also been in more than a few Indian Reservations.
As poor as some people are, theirs is no comparison to the degree of poverty.
Third Worlders don’t jump into their three quarter ton and drive into Lethbridge for some dental work, catch a movie at the Multi Plex and grab a Big Mac for the drive home.
Not by a long shot.

Claude - merci beaucoup.. I'm flattered you would consider my comments worthwhile to include in your blog, let along going to the trouble to translate.

I have my own concerns, from time to time, with our Prime Minister, but, at present, I believe his vision is the least damaging to the welfare of our country..

Cheer up R.G. ... not all people suck. Most people regardless of race creed or color all want the same thing ... some like those in Canada actually have what most of the world wants , but many Canadians who have never seen poverty in the 3rd world or even developing countries like Brazil have no comprehension of how good they have it here !

CanadianSense ...Not sure which press release you referred to as fake . The one's I was referring to were :

... and of course how could I possible forget GreenPeace littel summary of how much Canada owes !

http://www.greenpeace.org/raw/content/canada/en/documents-and-links/publications/copenhagen_conference_bg.pdf

What Canada needs to do
 Adopt a meaningful science-based target for greenhouse gas emission
reductions
Canada should immediately adopt a target of at least 25 per cent below 1990 levels
by 2020. This is a challenging but achievable target.iv
 Support Climate Justice
Canada must pay its fair share to fund the reduction of emissions and the adaptation
to unavoidable impacts of climate change in the developing world. Using a
“greenhouse development rights” framework, Canada should pay about 3 to 4 per
cent of the global costs,v which would amount to about US $140 billion (USD) per
year. This translates into C $2 to 6 billion per year.

Regardless how one slices and dices the numbers , the cost to Canada would be immense.
