Tell Telus to Go Screw Themselves

I'm sure I'm not alone in this.

But, well, I have a blog, so, I'm going to use it to single out the most irritating group of assholes on earth, at least for today.

The Telus corporation.

I have fielded a host of phone calls over the last month or two with a view to having me "bundle" my services.

Ok.  So I bought into the first call, moving my long distance provider and internet provider to telus.  Of course, during the call, they promised me that my "new" internet would be a humming along at 15 mbps, only to call me later to advise me they couldn't do that in my area - AFTER I bought into their stupid "bundle" of goodies.

Well, two days ago, they call my home with yet more offers, now seeking to have us buy into their new television package.  Well, unknown to me, my wife took the call and told them we were happy with our cable provider and declined the offer.

Last night.. sure enough I get the call from these morons again.  My wife was gone, and they went to work trying to sell me on the t.v. package.  I told them I would talk to my wife and get back to them.. the salesman tells me that this offer is special and he's sure my wife would want me to make this deal.  I politely tell him "no", I don't change my cable without discussing it with my wife.  This pushy salesman then suggests that I call my wife on her "cell phone".  I hang up.  He calls back.  I hang up again.

Well.  Five minutes ago, the guy calls again.

Ok.  Enough already.

I was going to move my cable to Telus, and now they can go screw themselves.  Shaw all the way.

And maybe I'll change my internet provider in the bargain.

So.  For what it's worth, I would strongly suggest you not deal with Telus.  For anything.  And if some East Indian guy happens to get on your phone tonight, well, tell him Rob says he can go f*ck himself.

The Telus union is certifiably crazy, and that's why I will never do business with them.

When I first moved to Calgary 12 years ago I got a ClearNet cell phone. Awsome customer service and decent rates / plans. Then Telus bought them out and forced me onto their plans at a higher cost and lousy customer service.

I used Cadvision for my business internet... Until Telus bought them out. To continue my service (at less bandwidth and. Shaw was not an option where I lived) I had to sign up for their busness plan at 150% of the cost of Cadvision PLUS I had to obtain a business phone line at $50 per month (not required i.e. "naked DSL" with Cadvision).

When I let my Telus cell phone lapse to get my iPhone last year Telus had the same Indian ESL call centers harrassing me to sign up for a new contract. They offered a free smart phone, a Cadilac and a basket of kittens if I would sign up.

Previous to my jump to Rogers for my iPhone I switched 100% to Shaw for TV, Internet and home phone and have never looked back. Awsome customer service and a decent product and reasonable rates.

Unless Telus starts rolling out Fios they will be in trouble someday. All they have is a twisted pair into your house and they should remember that when they treat their customer base so bad.

My brother worked for Telus for about 5 years and I'm sorry to say but his former roomie and one of his good friends is a major dude high in the Union now. I saw him in the paper a few months ago doing something in Ottawa. I have stories to tell about that guy and what he is like in person that you wouldn't believe (or maybe you would lol). Talk about a scammer!

Anyway I have known him for about 10 years now so it's not like I am talking out of my butt with rumors. I KNOW him.

As for Telus, my mom just canned them after more than 30 years with AGT then Telus, because they sent her a bill for over $1000!!! And they wanted her to pay it! It was only her constant demanding phone calls to various supervisors that got her off the hook. What happened is, she has had their Unlimited US/Canada calling pack for several years but some numbers were recently removed from the list and she was not told. Others were but when she asked for confirmation of her account as to what days a letter or phone call was placed to her about the change, the staff came up empty. My mom did not receive any notice. So they did clear the bill after 2 weeks of arguing but Mom was so upset about it all, after never being late with a bill in over 30 years, and then getting her phone cut off (oops I forgot to tell you that part, didn't I?) - that she dumped them and moved to another company.

I have received calls recently about bundling my services too but I thought they were already bundled. The woman told me my bill would be $65 instead of $90. Well I just got my new bill and it was $103!! Um.... that's not saving 40 bucks and it actually cost MORE than before she changed something. So of course I had to call them back to get it sorted out. Apparently there is no possible way to bundle my services to only cost a total of $65 a month (i have main line and internet plus a long distance package, voice mail, caller ID, etc) so the new rep had no idea how the previous rep came to that conclusion. *Sigh*.

My brother said that the training is very very quick and not indepth at all and new people are then trained by the workers who weren't trained properly in the first place, and so on and so forth.

ps my brother left Telus when they were starting to train people over in Bangladesh to field customer service and directory assitance type calls. He worked at 411 and then 611 and then said 'bye bye'.

Telus service sucks and you try to talk to someone in Canada it is near impossible. My sister once worked in the trouble room in Calgary and they had instructions to place some people on hold and forget about them. What I hear is all the service lines are based in India now and all these calls come from there.

I'm not sure that the other big providers are much better...

I called Bell retention for home phone service saying that I was planning on leaving as they were almost 50% more expense than Videotron...
Got a song and dance...but not match

I switched and THEN they offered to lower my rates... after it was too late.

..hence the problem with government supported monopolies.

We don't try harder, because we don't have to.

Technically the telcos are not a monopoly.

There is a need for the CRTC but it has been perverted by having ex-telco executives on board - how neutral can they really be?
And we can only imagine all the lobbying that is going on...

Private enterprise is not always the solution to our problems....

Telus is by far the least bad of the telecos in Canada. Their service is terrible, but all the others are far worse. Shaw, Bell, and Rogers make Telus look fantastic in comparison.

I'm iffy about changing my phone contract to Shaw after my telus contract is up because of things I have heard about them as well. Also, when I first moved into this house 2 years ago, my phone did not work and the Telus guy came out and was grumbling the whole time because the people before me had Shaw phone and those guys had disabled the little AGT box in the basement. He said it's actually illegal for Shaw to do that, but they see it all the time. I don't know about the truth behind that claim but I made mental note of it.

My mom is on Shaw phone now but it's only been a month so impossible to know if she will have problems with them or not.

If I manage to find a decent cell provider I can rely on, I will eventually just dump my land line completely. I just don't like having to rely on power (ie recharging in the car or wall outlet) in case my phone dies and there is an emergency. I don't know what happens with Shaw phone when power is out either, have to ask. But I like being able to plug in my old touch tone phone if the power is out so I can still have emergency contact if needed. Having 3 little kids in the house makes you think of those things.

Telemarketing calls can be fun if you don't mind spending a few minutes with them.

Priceless.

Telemarketers can be fun, as long as you don't have to press 1 or another number. My first question is usually, where are you calling from. No, I want to know where you are calling from, not for.
This can go on for a few minutes and then I ask, where are you going to sleep with your whatever tonight. That gets them and they mention the country, and it is not Canada.
I then say, I am sorry, I don't do business with anyone that has taken a job away from a Canadian.
If they get testy I will ask about their wife, kids, affairs and lots of other things. I have even caused them to hang up on me.
And today I refused an offer that my phone number had won 2500.00 worth of travel dollars. Didn't press 1 to take advantage of this great offer.
Hey, word verification-hossed.

Happy New Year All!

Mary T,

I like to have too much fun with them and rarely go your route.

I like to quote famous lines in movies and see if they are paying attention or staying on script.

I used to tell the (window installers telemarketers who were in my neighbourhood) I no longer had any windows in my house. It would take them a few questions to realize they were being taken for ride.

My bad.

Have you noticed that when you throw them a line of any kind, and get them off topic, they have to start from the beginning again.

Mary T,

Yes it that can be fun to see how well they know their product or script.

I like to ask about their corporate policy regarding the treatment of xxx depending on the product or service.
