Amnesty International: Credibility on the Wane

Amnesty International Auxiliary Member

There was a time when the barbed-wire, surrounded candle of Amnesty International was a symbol of bravery and strength - an organisation standing up boldly against broad human rights abuses.

But, of late, the group has become a mouth piece for socialism and anti-capitalism and has, too often, turned a blind eye to true human rights atrocities, preferring to rail on about how we treat terrorists at Guantanamo Bay and how we treat hooligans who choose to hide behind "freedom of speech" in democratic countries to riot and cause damage as "sport".

Again, today, we read their latest missive, basically complaining about how police exerted influence to quell rioting in Toronto.

No water canons, no attack dogs let loose - for the most part, peaceful arrests using great restraint.

And Amnesty International isn't happy.

You see, arresting and photographing people, releasing them within 24 hours is an offense of the highest order - yet wide spread threats and violence by Muslim extremists get very little time.  Sure - they publish missives, but the real voice, the loud talking, is all generated against countries where democracy and capitalism are the rule.

Why?

Because it's easy stand on your soap box and criticize a country who practices free speech.

A little more difficult and risky to stand up in Islamibad,Pakistan and denounce the government for tacitly supporting the murder of 90 Ahmadi Muslims last month, because they aren't the "right kind" of Muslims, such that every Pakistani must sign a declaration when obtaining a passport affirming that Ahmadi are not Muslims.

Pardon me, but while I have been one to rail against the loss of freedom in Canada, and the progression towards a police state - in this case, I have no difficulty with Police taking firm and decisive action to prevent violence and to prosecute those who would use the blanket of "freedom of speech" as a cloak to hurt others and damage their property.
