Into the Mouth of the Beast.. Journey to the "Rally to Restore Sanity"

I have seen the enemy..  and he smirks.

Well, I have managed to convince the bean counters at SFL to fund a journalistic excursion to Washington, D.C., to report first hand on the "Rally to Restore Sanity" being hosted by Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert.

Alright.. so the accounting department, the personnel department and the editorial board are all, well, me.

Never matter.

This, this conservative is wading into the belly of the beast October 30, travelling to Washington, D.C., to take in this "libfest" of sorts.   Set up to be the "intelligent and sane" response to the Tea Party rallies, I'm curious enough to want to see for myself how the "nicer" Americans are.

(Alright, I'm not really attending Washington only for the rally, I'm actually attending a conference on Collaborative Law..  a wonderful process by the way to help people stay out of Court in family law disputes.. for more info: www.collaborativelaw.ca or http://www.collaborativepractice.com )

I expect to be surrounded by thousands of liberals, swooning and hanging on every word of Stewart and Colbert.. and who knows what other guests will be speaking.

I'm a curious sort, however, and as my blog page says, you can't learn anything if you don't listen.

So, I'll be taking my life in my hands and wandering about the Washington National Mall on October 30, 2010.

If you check out the Rally site you will note that they are encouraging the bringing of signs to show how "sane" you are.

If you're feeling creative, you can upload your own sign at the Rally site here.

My effort?

I will keep you all posted.. if I don't come back, don't worry about me.. save yourselves.

Buy a gun.  Go off-grid.

Best of luck with your conference and grab some picks before they trash the place.

Liberals are running out of excuses. The productive members of society are fed up with blame game and both incumbents that are addicted to spending are going to get a reality check in three weeks.

1) The Rally to Restore Sanity is Jon Stewart's event, Stephen Colbert has a separate though concurrent event, the "March to Keep Fear Alive."

2) I'm pretty sure Jon Stewart considers himself a moderate, not a Liberal (big "L" Liberal). And I would say say that's true. Based on his show I would not classify him as a partisan at all. He makes fun of hypocrisy and idiocy in all it's forms. He satirizes the Democrats as well as the Republicans. The American right-wing just provides him a lot more fodder (all political beliefs aside, you have to admit Fox News, Sarah Palin, et al. say some pretty crazy things).

3) "Into the mouth of the beast"...? Really? Are you expecting to be eaten alive by apathy and cynicism?

That's a really dickish sign. Believe it or not, there are people who do, in reality, feel the effects of racism, sexism, ablism, etc. Way to dismiss their experiences out-of-hand.

Marissa,

as the apologist for the Toronto Liberals your pain is nothing in comparison to the victims of Sharia law in the middle east.

Why are you not speaking up defending the right of those people in Iran, Lebanon, Saudia Arabia?

Our PM does speak up against Human Rights abuses including our trading partners.

Liberals love China and the U.A.E. I guess those human rights abuses are just not worth discussing in public.

How is return OMAR, bring home murderers on death row from the US coming along?

Don't forget to vote for Rob Ford, family and friends in Toronto are sending a message.

The timing of this event is great. Mocking middle America will only make more of them vote Republican.

RE: "1" of my comment

of course the events were merged... my bad.

Though it should be noted that the official name is now "The Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear."
