Campaign Finance Questions.. next election just go "Suzuki"

TIT:

FOR TAT:

Well.

Parliament is all up in arms over he alleged "in/out" financing arrangement in the PC Party involving local candidates pooling election funds to place regional ads.

The point isn't that the party used taxpayer dollars to help themselves (see Adscam), the point is that such an arrangement is alleged to allow the national party to exceed spending limits.

Maybe, maybe not.

But here's some advice to our Prime Minister and the party to avoid this problem in the future, taking a cue from the Liberal Party of Canada.

Next election, go all "Suzuki" on the Liberals.

Set up some foundation with a non-partisan purpose, but which purpose aligns specifically with Conservative ideals.

Similar, say, to the David Suzuki Foundation and the "Greenshift" platform of Stephane Dion. Maybe something like the "Stephen Taylor Foundation" or some such thing supporting some coincidentally common goal shared by the CPC.

Then, give the foundation a little "hand" by having your supporters donate huge gobs of money to the foundation.

Then have the foundation, oh, say, buy a bus and drive around Canada, set up websites, all touting the need to vote for some specific item of policy supported by the Conservative Party of Canada.

Trust me, it's been done before. You know, people like the Stephen Bronfmann Foundation - Mr. Bronfmann just "happened" to be a fundraiser for Stephane Dion, and just "happened" to donate over $1 million to David Suzuki's foundation, who just "happened" to heartily support the same goals as Stephane Dion.

And he wasn't alone.

Glass houses.

Stones.

You know..
