Suddenly, CPC Twitter goes silent.. hmmmm..

Many have been saying that this is an election about "nothing".. the "Seinfeld Election" some have called it.

But I'm starting to see the election as pretty informative, problem is - what I'm learning is making it a little more difficult to decide if I even want to vote at all.

Why would I blaspheme so.. here in the political blogosphere?

Well, it's starting to look a little like there is not one single deserving party to support in this election.

To begin with, I'll level my sights at the party I have been supporting - the Conservatives.  They've done a pretty credible job keeping the Canadian ship afloat, slow and steady through some pretty treacherous waters these past few years - but then, doing nothing to get in the way of the slowly growing economy isn't all that difficult when you're a minority government.

But let's give them credit.

On the other hand.

Through the election to this point, what I have seen from our noble Conservative machine is a lot of ankle-biting about where Ignatieff voted or didn't vote, where his family originally came from - but not a whole lot of adult talk about what distinguishes the Liberals from the Conservative.

Worse - yesterday, there was a barrage of tweets from Conservatives who couldn't say enough about the Ignatieff foreign voting gaff, and then, when suddenly - the disclosures come out regarding the Fraser report on the G8 spending..  the silence from the twitter masters in the PC Party is deafening.

For example:
@kenneyjason

If Mr. Ignatieff says he never voted in a US election, why did he tell a reporter he would do so?

@Rob_Harvie

@ Trust Iggy.. not. But, what say you respecting the Sheila Fraser report on G8 spending? Were we feathering our own nest?
The response?  **chirp chirp**

Likewise, twitter fiend, Tony Clement also was on the Ignatieff ankle-biting bandwagon:
@TonyclementCPC

RT @InklessPW Nobody should underestimate the queasiness many voters feel over Ignatieff's past vagueness about his national allegiance....

@Rob_Harvie

@TonyclementCPC some are feeling a little queasiness over the suggestions in the Fraser Report respecting spending. Comments?
Again - the response?  **chirp chirp**

Worse, when the dust settles a little bit, and someone comes forth from the PC Party to give a response, what do we get?  The party comes out and essentially does a cut and paste of comments made by Sheila Fraser respecting the Liberal response to 9/11 and pass it off as a comment respecting the Conservative management of the G8/G20 conference.

What do you make of all of this?

Are we truly that partisan that we are happy to look the other way in the face of what appears to be gross misuse of our tax dollars by a party that we expect to be fiscally conservative?  Are we really going to look the other way in the face of what appears to be either the worst sort of dishonesty - attributing comments to Sheila Fraser relating to something that happened years ago, and trying to pass them off as relating to the matters in issue today, or are we to believe that the Conservatives are not dishonest - but merely galactically stupid?  It's a dilemma, isn't it?  And only the most strident partisans are going to say, "No big deal"..

It truly is one stupid thing after the other.  From Bev Oda and her brutal soft-shoe over the changes to the funding for KAIROS, now to this "accidental" use of the Fraser quote and the continuing non-response to the allegations of spending millions of our tax dollars for what appears to be purely partisan purposes (can you say Adscam?) the goings on in the Conservative caucus are truly starting to stink.

I'll tell you what.  I'll withhold final judgment until the debate.  I will expect that there will be some indication of why we needed to spend the money that appears to have been thrown away in Tony Clement's riding.  But if I do not receive some reasonable explanation - I am very unlikely to vote Conservative come election day.

And I suspect I may not be alone.

Now - then - will I vote for Michael Ignatieff's party?

Not in your life.  The fact that the Fraser Report was leaked, no doubt, by Liberal insiders, smells just as bad as anything attributed to the Conservatives.   The ongoing promises of billions of dollars in new spending, with almost no thought being given as to where those funds are coming from - other than corporate tax increases, that have no chance of creating revenue anywhere close to what the Liberals suggest they will is just a recipe for economic slow-down, and continuation of the liberal vision of utopia where those who work will get to pay more for those who don't.

My vote may not be cast this election.

Not that it matters, perhaps, in Alberta.. but, unless the party I support starts actually displaying something approaching integrity and intelligence, I'm not going to park a vote with a party "just because".

Message to the Conservative Party - it's time to end this amateur night version of a campaign and to start showing some leadership.  Or not only will you not get that majority you pine for, you may find you wake up the day following the election to Prime Minister Ignatieff.

Are you really having grief over people, who are running for office, not tweeting for a period during a media feeding frenzy?

Is the gov't perfect? Hell no, but they are at least trying to get shit done against a do nothing toxic opposition.

Give them a majority and a chance to get out some unwatered down (due to the opposition)policy and then see what happens.

Things are good in Canada and I honestly believe that this gov't has earned the chance to show us what they got, for real.

I should also add: After 4 years if they turn out like the Alberta PC's who with a MASSIVE majority play nanny and spend like liberals, I will be right beside you calling them out and withholding my vote.

I kind of get that feeling too. That being said, we don't really know all the facts yet - but reserving our opinion until we do would take way too long.

If Harper wants to solidify the base, he'd better come out swinging - and not with a bunch of, 'The Liberals did it too!' comments...

I'm not jumping off the bus yet, mostly because I feel the same as you about the other parties, but something needs to give.

There's no such thing as a federal PC Party. It drives me crazy to no ends when I hear people calling the CPC the "PC's." You're living a couple of decades in the past.

So you're going to support the Coalition of Bushwackers because the Toronto media tell you to?

You can’t see how this is another instance of manufactured propaganda?

That’s pretty wobbly of you.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

You’re treating this like it’s some kind of debating club competition when it’s the future of not only our country, but our livelihoods. Or have you convinced yourself that the Bushwackers Coalition will be really, really friendly and fair with Alberta?

And lets not forget your “Words To Live By”

“ask not what your country can do for you – ask what you can do for your country”

INDEED!

But I don’t think that throwing up the “white flag” is what was meant?
Or is “cut and run” a better description?
Either way, we need to toughen up and gird for a fight to the finish.

"Cut and run"?

Nope.

Asking the party that I support and that I expect MORE of to stand up and show the leadership that we need.

The point about the twitter is basically that we have MP's running about biting Ignatieff's ankles, but when there is an issue that is creating some not insignificant waves, we hear nothing.

I don't expect an answer to me. I'm a nobody - I expect something more than "Sheila says we have done a great job.. ooops.. my bad.."

It's a freaking joke.

And if the Conservatives don't win a majority, there should be a major blood-letting.

Asses need to get kicked.

Sometimes telling the naked emperor that his clothes are lovely is just not good enough.

And bertie.

Should the standard we expect of the coservative party be that they haven't committed a criminal offense?

Is the bar really set that low.

"We're not as greasy as the Liberals, so vote for us..?"

Sorry, but I expect more and am looking to the leader of the CPC (yes, pardon the typo Reid) to stand up and be counted on this point.

I've heard enough about Ignagieff's family background and where he voted or didn't.. time to take the gloves off and show that the CPC is more than they are giving us to this point in time.

The bar is not set that low.Does our Prime Minister have to yell and scream..Does he have to be smiling and joking all the time to get a favorable column written...Does he have to spell out to us what the Conservatives have done while in a minority??The Canadian press will not print anything good about this government,because it has all been good.What does that tell you,should the press be rounded up and jailed for misinforming the Canadian public or the RCMP sent in and abscond the files of all the newspapers,something like elections Canada did at the Conservatives HQ.What does PM Harper have to do???Slap each one of the opposition on the side of the head during the debate,call them liars and cowards and when the questions are asked to other leaders,talk over them when they try to give answers..What should PM Harper do to get into your good books.

I'm very disapointed with how many conservatives are buying in to the MSM narative. The CPC are fighting (and have been for years) an uphill battle against not only the coalition but the MSM and every special interest group in the country. But I guess senator Duceppe, May, and Suzuki being appointed next to Industry minister Layton is A-OK with you. This is the last chance we have to stop the socialist coalition and if the CPC fails to live up to expectations after a majority I will help you form a new Reform party. :-)

Finally an intelligent post from a conservative blogger. To me your query as to whether or not conservatives are dishonest or merely galactically stupid is no dilemma at all. Clearly their both. I also agree with you that the conservatives are a party of ankle biters who ignore the important issues as they continue with their bush league style of running amateur night on the campaign trail. I congratulate you on not accepting another glass full of Harpers “own special blend of Kool aid” in mindlessly ignoring the flagrant and gross misuse of our tax dollars by this “self branded” fiscally conservative party. While it is sad that you may not exercise your democratic right to vote in this election, I would lay good money on the fact that many Canadians formally under the Harper con tent will do the same. Memo to Harper cons looks like another 93 Liberal sweep.
